The short answer

What is an employee wellness program?

Reviewed by Santhosh SivadasanFounder, 17 years in corporate events. Updated September 2026.

An employee wellness program is a planned set of activities an employer runs to support the physical and mental health of its staff: health check camps, yoga and movement, mental health and stress sessions, nutrition talks, ergonomics clinics, sports days and family days. It works when it runs on a calendar through the year, inside working hours, with a simple report at the end of each activity.

OM Events plans and runs employee wellness programs for companies in Chennai and across Tamil Nadu. We are an event company, not a healthcare provider: we source and contract the licensed partners, build the calendar, run the internal communications and the slot booking that decide turnout, manage the venue and the day, and send you the numbers. Anything clinical stays with the doctors, counsellors and instructors qualified to do it.

Why it matters

Employee wellbeing in India is a business number, not a perk.

Four figures from two independent studies, each linked to coverage of the source.

80%

of the Indian workforce reported mental health issues in the past year.

Deloitte, Mental health and well-being in the workplace, 2022. Survey of about 4,000 employees. Report coverage
$14billion

a year is what poor employee mental health costs Indian employers, through absence, lost productivity and attrition.

Deloitte, 2022. Report coverage
47%

of those with poor mental health named work-related stress as the biggest factor.

Deloitte, 2022. Report coverage
70%

of Indian workers experience stress at least once a week at work.

ADP Research Institute, The Workforce View, 2020. Report coverage

None of this is fixed by an event company, and we will not claim otherwise. What an organised programme does is make the support visible, easy to reach inside working hours, and measurable, so HR can show leadership what was offered and who used it.

The usual mistake

One wellness day a year is not a wellness programme.

Most companies run a health camp in February, photograph it, and do nothing else until the next February. Attendance falls every year. The activity is rarely the problem; the calendar, the timing and the turnout are.

Inside working hours

Anything after 6pm competes with going home, and loses. The sessions that fill are the ones people can attend without giving up their own time.

Spread, not stacked

Eight short touchpoints beat one long day. Ninety minutes every six weeks keeps the subject alive; a single annual event is a photograph.

Four numbers is enough

Invited, attended, attendance by department and a feedback score. Enough to show leadership whether it worked and to defend next year’s budget.

Where our job ends

We run the programme. Licensed partners do the clinical work.

We are an event company, not a healthcare provider, and the line is worth drawing on the page rather than in a meeting.

We handle

Everything around the session, which is most of the work and all of the reasons turnout fails.

  • Sourcing, vetting and contracting the licensed partner
  • Mapping the calendar around appraisals and quiet periods
  • Internal communications: mailers, posters, floor standees, reminders
  • Pre-booked time slots by department
  • Venue, furniture, screens, privacy partitions and signage
  • On-site coordination so your HR team can take part
  • Catering that matches the message
  • Photography for internal communications
  • The report: invited, attended, by department, feedback

Stays with a licensed partner

Clinical work belongs to people qualified to do it. Be wary of any event company that says otherwise.

  • Any medical examination, test or diagnosis
  • Reading and interpreting results
  • Counselling and clinical mental health support
  • Prescribing anything at all
  • Individual health records, which never come to you
  • Physiotherapy assessment and treatment

After every activity

What HR can show leadership afterwards.

A one-page report per activity, in the same format every time, so the numbers compare across quarters and offices. Individual health data goes to the individual and never to the employer.

Turnout

Five things that get employees to turn up.

Turnout is the part most wellness programmes get wrong, and it is part of our scope, not yours.

01

Book slots, not queues

Pre-booked slots by department, so nobody stands in a line and managers know when their team is away.

02

Put it where people walk

The cafeteria, the lobby, the training room next to the lift. Not a hall on another floor.

03

Keep it under an hour

Forty-five to sixty minutes for any single session, so it fits between meetings.

04

Tell people three times

A mailer, posters and floor standees, then a reminder the day before and the morning of.

05

Give managers a reason

Share the slot plan with team leads in advance, so releasing their people is easy to say yes to.

Good to know

Questions HR teams ask about employee wellness.

Rather talk it through? Call +91 89391 74777 and you will reach our founder, not a call queue.

What is an employee wellness program?

An employee wellness program is a planned set of activities an employer runs to support the physical and mental health of its staff. In practice that means a mix of health check camps, movement such as yoga or a sports day, talks on nutrition or stress, ergonomics support for desk workers, and something the family can attend. It works when it runs on a calendar through the year rather than as one event.

How much does an employee wellness program cost in Chennai?

As an indicative starting point, a half day health check camp for 100 employees typically starts around Rs 60,000 including the medical partner, the set-up and the report, and a corporate sports day for 200 people at a ground with equipment, referees, catering and prizes usually falls between Rs 2.5 and 6 lakh. A twelve month calendar is quoted per activity rather than as a lump sum, so any activity can be moved or dropped as the year goes on.

Do you organise corporate health check-up camps in Chennai?

Yes, with a diagnostics provider or hospital as the medical partner. We book slots by department in advance so nobody queues, set up the space with privacy partitions, and run the communications. Individual results go to each employee; the employer receives only an anonymised summary. A half day camp typically covers 60 to 300 employees and is best booked 3 to 4 weeks ahead.

Can you arrange corporate yoga sessions for employees?

Yes. A certified instructor runs 45 to 60 minute sessions for 15 to 60 people in a meeting room, the cafeteria or on a lawn, with mats supplied. Yoga works best as a standing weekly slot rather than a one-off, and it is one of the easiest formats to keep running through the Chennai summer because it stays indoors.

Do you provide the doctors and counsellors yourselves?

No, and you should be wary of any event company that claims it does. We bring in licensed partners: a diagnostics provider or hospital for health camps, licensed practitioners for mental health sessions, certified instructors for yoga and fitness, and physiotherapists for ergonomics clinics. We handle the brief, the vetting, the contracting, the logistics and the turnout; the clinical work stays with people qualified to do it.

Do you run mental health workshops for employees?

Yes, delivered by licensed practitioners on subjects such as stress, sleep and workload, for groups of 20 to 80 in sessions of 60 to 90 minutes. We arrange the room, the communications and the confidentiality terms in advance, and nothing any individual shares is reported to the employer.

How do we get employees to actually turn up?

Run it inside working hours, book slots in advance rather than using a walk-in queue, put it where people already walk past, keep any single session under an hour, tell people three times, and give managers the slot plan early so releasing their teams is easy. The internal communications, slot booking and reminders are part of our scope.

Can you run wellness activities across multiple offices and shifts?

Yes. We run the same programme across several Chennai locations on different days with the same partner and the same report format, so the numbers compare across sites, and we schedule plant and shift teams by shift. For teams outside the city we cover Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Tuticorin and Hosur, with crew travel shown as a separate line.

What do we get afterwards to show leadership?

A one-page report per activity: invited, attended, attendance by department or location, the feedback score, anonymised aggregate findings from the medical partner where relevant, and photographs. Individual health data goes to the individual and never to the employer, which is both correct and what any diagnostics partner will insist on.

How far in advance should we book?

Three to four weeks for a health camp or a single session, mainly to give the medical partner lead time and to run the internal communications properly. Six to eight weeks for a sports day or a family day, because the good grounds and resorts around Chennai book out, especially between November and February.

Is an employee wellness program different from team building?

Yes. Team building is about how a group works together and is usually one high energy day. Wellness is about the health of individuals and works best spread across the year in smaller touchpoints. Many companies run both, and so do we, but one is not a substitute for the other.

Who runs OM Events and how do we start?
